Hopes Coatham boathouse revamp will attract businesses

A council has invested £110,000 revamping its boathouse in the hope it will attract new businesses.

Redcar and Cleveland Council hopes the newly-regenerated Coatham Boathouse will encourage a leisure business to set up on the lake.

A council spokesman said the site, which dates back to the 1930s, was also now suitable for a cafe and shops.

The regeneration was partly funded by the Coastal Communities initiative to support business start-ups.

The work to the building has included rewiring, as well as new walls, doors and windows.

The site, which is to let, also has permission for a hot food takeaway.

Cabinet member for economic growth, Councillor Mark Hannon, said: "We have redesigned the boathouse to create a great opportunity for a business to occupy tailor-made facilities."
