Strictly star Mark Benton receives honorary degree
Strictly Come Dancing star Mark Benton is to receive an honorary degree from his hometown university.
The actor, from Middlesbrough, is one of 11 people from the area to be honoured by Teesside University.
He was knocked out of the BBC dance show at the weekend, along with professional partner Iveta Lukosiute.
Benton, who will receive an Honorary Doctorate of letters, said: "It makes you realise you must have done something right along the way."
The actor has featured in Doctor Who, Early Doors, Northern Lights and Barbara.
He recently toured the UK with Hairspray the Musical and will also tour with the stage version of Strictly Come Dancing next year.
He added: "This honour is especially important [to receive] from my hometown university."
Other recipients of honorary degrees at the university include Prof Charles Greenough, clinical director of Spinal Injuries at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough-born autism campaigner Anna Kennedy and BBC Business presenter Stephanie McGovern.
Teesside Vice-Chancellor Prof Graham Henderson said: "I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to welcome all these wonderful people into our university community.
"I am sure that our students will enjoy sharing their personal success with such inspiring role models."
