A 55-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering a sex worker who went missing 12 years ago has been bailed.

Rachel Wilson had been working in Middlesbrough and was last seen in May 2002.

The 19-year-old's remains were not found until 10 years later in 2012, on the outskirts of the town but police believe she died elsewhere.

Cleveland Police said the man had been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mother's plea

Last week, Miss Wilson's mother Tina made a fresh appeal for information on the anniversary of her daughter's remains being found.

A 57-year-old man was arrested in 2003 in connection with Miss Wilson's disappearance but was released without charge.

Links to other sex workers who went missing from the Middlesbrough area have also been ruled out by police over the years.

It is not believed that Miss Wilson, from the Grove Hill area of Middlesbrough, died where her body was found.

A cause of death has never been established because of a lack of forensic evidence.
