A hunt is on for the man thought to have been driving a car which crashed in County Durham, killing a 21-year-old passenger.

Police are trying to trace Andrew Raine, from Crook, who they believe was driving the black Volkswagen Polo when it crashed into a fence in High Grange at about 05:30 GMT.

The man who died was from the Billy Row area of Crook.

Officers have arrested and are questioning two other passengers.

Acting Det Ch Insp Traci McNally said: "This is a tragic incident and I would like to appeal to anybody who has knowledge of this incident, or of the location of Andrew Raine, to please come forward.

"I am concerned that he may have suffered an injury as a result of the collision and need to be sure that he is fit and well."
