Man found unconscious in Hartlepool street 'critical'

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found unconscious and with "significant" head injuries on a street in Hartlepool.

Cleveland Police said the 24-year-old man was found by a member of the public at the junction of Eskdale Road and Eaglesfield Road at about 00:45 BST.

He was taken hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Police said three people were reportedly seen arguing in the street just a few minutes before he was found.

The man, who has not been indentified, had been with friends in the Hourglass pub until about midnight.

Det Ch Insp Paul Haytack said: "We are appealing for information so that we can put together a picture of the circumstances that led to the man being found in the street with significant head injuries.

"There were reportedly three people seen arguing shortly before the man was found and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen these people or anyone who may have any information regarding the incident to contact us."
