Two in court over Raoul Moat shootings

Two men have appeared at Newcastle Crown Court charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with the shootings carried out by Raoul Moat.

Moat went on the run for a week after shooting his ex-girlfriend, killing her new partner and shooting a police officer on Tyneside.

Karl Ness and Qhuram Awan are also charged with possessing a firearm with intent.

They entered no plea while appearing via video link.

They are next due to appear in November.

Mr Ness, 26, from Dudley in North Tyneside, and Mr Awan, 23, from Blyth in Northumberland, will remain in custody.
