North Tyneside residents alerted over 'dirty' water

North Tyneside residents are being warned their taps could run "dirty" water over the next six months.

Engineers are carrying out essential maintenance work in the Killingworth area, beginning on Monday, and are warning it could affect supplies.

Northumbrian Water said the water was harmless and those affected should let the tap flow until it clears.

Areas which could be affected include Hadrian Park, Cochrane Park, Longbenton, Benton and Palmersville.

A spokesman for the water company said discoloration would only happen occasionally.
