Pigeons stolen in Newcastle aviary raid

Dozens of pigeons have been stolen from an aviary in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police are investigating after 30 pigeons, worth hundreds of pounds, went missing in Linnel Drive, Lemington.

The incident took place shortly after 2300 BST on Tuesday.

Police say four men were seen leaving the garden over a fence around this time and driving off in a hatchback car.

Insp Nick Farrell said: "These pigeons are often very carefully reared and it's distressing for the owners when they get stolen.

"There will be people who know of someone who has come into possession of a large number of pigeons and I'd urge anyone who has information about their whereabouts to contact police as soon as possible."
