A main road in Northumberland has partially reopened following a spillage of aviation fuel.

A section of the A68 near Swinburne Quarry, Hexham, was closed on Monday evening after a military vehicle containing the fuel overturned.

Part of the northbound carriage way remains closed, but temporary traffic lights have been installed to allow traffic flow in both directions.

It is not yet known when the road will fully reopen.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash at 1800 BST.

The driver was airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital where his condition has been described as serious but not life-threatening.
