Police seize alcohol in Newcastle crackdown
Police have seized about 40 litres of alcohol from youths in Newcastle as part of a crackdown on disorderly behaviour.
The operation at Throckley began after residents complained about young people drinking in nearby woods.
There were also complaints about disorder and damage on one estate.
Police and neighbourhood wardens have increased patrols, and warning letters have been sent out to the youths and their parents.
Head of the operation, Pc Patrick Hammond said local off-licences had been visited and been warned not to sell alcohol to under-18s.
"Residents are quite rightly fed up with the youths coming by their house when drunk, and causing problems in their area.
"The operation sends out a clear message to youths involved in this sort of behaviour that we will not tolerate under-age drinking and the associated disorder and damage that they are creating in this area."
