Cyclist killed in lorry collision in South Shields

A cyclist has died in a collision with a lorry in South Shields.

Emergency services were called to Western Approach just after 1330 BST. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene but he has not been named.

Roads around the scene were closed and diversions set up and as a result there was considerable congestion.

Northumbria Police advised motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes. They are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
