Teenager dies in Tyneside road crash

A 19-year-old man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed in North Tyneside.

Police said the Ford Fiesta came off the road and hit a low brick wall and road sign in Dudley Lane, Seaton Burn, at about 2300 BST on Tuesday.

The dead man had been a front-seat passenger in the car.

A 19-year-old man was treated for minor injuries at Newcastle General Hospital and then arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The rear seat passenger - also a 19-year-old man - suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Newcastle General Hospital.

The road was closed for four hours while investigations were carried out.
