Fire crews tackle Tyneside hotel blaze
Dozens of firefighters tackled a fire at a hotel in South Tyneside.
The 35 firefighters were called to the Quality Hotel, in Boldon, shortly after 1100 GMT and the fire was put out by about 1400 GMT.
The fire service said the hotel was evacuated safely. One woman was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
There was traffic disruption on nearby roads because of drifting smoke, Northumbria Police said.
John Allison, district manager for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire started in the sauna room but firefighters stopped it from reaching the bedrooms.
He said the exact cause was not clear.
The front of the hotel - including its reception area, health spa and function room - were badly damaged.
