Jet ski rider crashes into jetty on River Tyne

A jet ski rider became caught in fishing lines, span round and crashed head on into a jetty on the River Tyne.

The man, who had been riding along the edge of the river near to the sailing club at South Shields, suffered leg injuries.

Tynemouth's lifeboat crew rescued the man at 1336 GMT and he was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital.

They said the man had been "lucky" as he was driving at about 50mph which "could easily have caused a tragedy".
