Police seized hundreds of cannabis plants from a house in Northumberland after being alerted by a landlord.

More than 650 fully grown plants were recovered after the landlord of the house in Gilsland, Hexham became suspicious of the tenants.

Officers from Northumbria Police have so far been unable to trace the people who were staying at the property.

A force spokesman said the occupants had used the loft area of the house to grow the plants.

He said: "There is no room for drugs of any kind in our communities and I would urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible."
