Cold callers shut out from Gateshead houses

Elderly people living in sheltered accommodation in part of Gateshead are to be protected from cold callers.

A zone is being brought in around Kateregina Sheltered Accommodation, in Birtley.

The aim is to prevent burglary, bogus callers and rogue traders and protect vulnerable people.

Signs are being put up on lampposts in the area and leaflets distributed to residents to tell them that the scheme is operating.

Gateshead Council is working on the scheme with Northumbria Police and the Gateshead Housing Company.
