Newcastle pub arson attack investigated
Police are investigating an arson attack at a Newcastle pub.
A bottle filled with what was believed to be petrol and an ignited rag were thrown into the Hillheads pub, Westerhope, on Thursday.
It started a fire which was quickly extinguished by people in the bar, before the fire service attended.
Two men aged in their late teens or early 20s, believed to be involved in the incident, were seen to leave the area in a small saloon car.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "This was a serious incident which could have had a far more serious outcome.
"As it is the fire was put out fairly swiftly and no-one was injured.
"We know there were a lot of people in the area around the pub at the time, and I'd urge them to come forward and speak to officers."
