Man jailed over Sunderland attack death

A Sunderland man who killed another man in a drunken attack has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison.

Steven Corbett was found with head injuries following reports of a disturbance at a house in Benton Avenue, Sunderland, in September.

The 27-year-old, from Birtley Avenue in the city, later died in hospital.

Keith Ramshaw, 30, of Bootle Street, was originally charged with murder but this was changed to manslaughter, and his guilty plea was accepted.

Newcastle Crown Court was told that both men had been attending a stag party before the assault.
