Baby sleeps on despite tree falling on Wallsend house

A 17-month-old baby slept through when a tree fell on to his family's house in high winds in North Tyneside.

The tree crashed into the house in Wallsend on Monday night causing damage to the roof.

Baby James Sturman was asleep in an upstairs room and his family said he did not stir despite the noise.

His father John said the noise had been "tremendous" and they had been told they had been fortunate the tree had not caused more damage.

Mr Sturman said: "He slept through it all. He didn't wake at all. The noise was tremendous.

"The tree surgeon said we were very lucky it didn't come through the whole house."
