River body thought to be missing Alexander Miller

A body found in a river in Gateshead is believed to be that of a 76-year-old man who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

The body was recovered from the River Derwent near Rowland's Gill on Monday afternoon.

Northumbria Police said they believed it was that of Alexander Miller, who went missing from Whickham on 25 May.

Police and Mr Miller's family had issued a number of appeals during their search.
