Police investigating reports of a rape in a Northumberland town have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to.

It follows an incident on Forum Way, Cramlington at 0240 BST on 11 June.

It is thought that the victim might have met her alleged attacker in a public house earlier.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the man shown on the image could have information about the incident as he was in the area at the time.

Scenes of crime officers carried out a detailed investigation of the location - a wooded area between a footpath underpass and the railway flyover.

Detective Constable Ian Beecroft, from the Rape Investigation Team, said: "This was a frightening attack which has left the victim extremely upset."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Northumbria Force.
