10CC to play free gig at Sunderland airshow

The 23rd Sunderland International Airshow weekend will open with a free concert by 1970s rockers 10CC.

Frontman Graham Gouldman will perform a 30-minute acoustic set followed by a full band performance.

The gig kicks off the biggest free airshow in Europe at Seaburn and Roker from 1900 BST and will take place from Friday, 29 July to Sunday, 31 July.

The evening will be topped off with a sunset flying display and fireworks.

The airshow takes place between 1000 BST and 1800 BST on both Saturday and Sunday with a full programme of activity in the air and on the ground.

Other highlights from the weekend programme include RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team, The Blades, Avro Vulcan nuclear bomber, the return of the Breitling Wingwalkers, the RAF Tutor and the Royal Navy Black Cats helicopter display team from the British Armed Forces.

Civilian pilots are also flying a range of classic aircraft including a Hurricane and a Spitfire which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

BBC Newcastle is the official radio station of the Sunderland International Airshow and will be broadcasting from the seafront across the weekend.
