Manslaughter charge over Felling bypass road death

A Tyneside man has been charged with manslaughter and dangerous driving after a man was struck by a car and died in March.

Michael Ritson, from Jarrow, suffered severe head injuries in the incident on the Felling bypass, Gateshead, and later died in hospital.

It is thought the 33-year-old had come to the aid of a motorcylist who had been slightly hurt in a crash.

A 26-year-old man from Kenton is due before Newcastle magistrates on 7 July.
