A Tyneside man has appeared before magistrates charged with manslaughter and dangerous driving.

Michael Ritson, 33, from Jarrow, died in hospital after an incident on the Felling bypass, Gateshead, in March.

It is thought he was struck by a car while aiding a motorcylist who had been slightly hurt in a separate crash.

Steven Black, 26, from the Riding, Kenton, Newcastle, entered no plea and was bailed to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 21 July.
