Pupils warned over Tyne and Wear Metro trespass

Pupils are being warned about the dangers of trespassing on Tyne and Wear Metro lines.

Operator Nexus has developed an interactive teaching pack, which can be adapted by teachers, to highlight the risks of playing on the tracks.

It features video clips of real case studies in the hope that will reinforce the message.

Nexus said it was running the campaign in schools in the run-up to the summer holidays.

Nexus youth liaison officer Rebecca Ditchburn said the interactive nature of the pack helped to engage with pupils.

She said: "Thankfully trespass by children on Metro is very low but with summer holidays approaching we want to get the message across clearly that railway lines are deadly places to play."
