Dog stolen from Hylton Redhouse and beaten is put down

A dog stolen from a Sunderland garden and badly beaten has had to be put down, police said.

The pet was taken from an address in Hylton Redhouse on Friday and later found lying in Downhill Park with severe injuries.

Sgt Gary Dixon, of Northumbria Police, said the animal could not have survived its injuries and had to be destroyed.

He said the owners were "distraught" and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
