Pedestrian Margaret Cowen dies seven weeks after crash

A woman has died seven weeks after being hit by a car in Sunderland.

Pedestrian Margaret Cowen was knocked over on a crossing in Stockton Road near Park Lane bus station on 9 June.

The 88-year-old, of Westfield Grove, suffered head and leg injuries and was kept in Sunderland Royal Hospital for three weeks, then released.

Police said she died at home on Friday and that her death might have been related to her injuries. A post-mortem examination is to be carried out.
