Officer suffers knife wound to arm in Newcastle

A police officer has been injured while dealing with a disturbance in Newcastle city centre.

Four men and a woman were arrested after police were called to the Bigg Market early on Sunday. They are being held on suspicion of affray.

While carrying out the inquiries into the incident an officer suffered a cut to his arm. He was treated in hospital and later released.

A knife has been recovered and the investigation is ongoing.
