A woman has been jailed for waving an airgun in a North Tyneside street for a "dare" while she was drunk.

Armed police were called and schools were told to keep children inside after Jane McComb was spotted with the weapon in Burnside Road, Whitley Bay.

The 20-year-old of Park Avenue, Whitley Bay, was later arrested.

Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court, McComb admitted affray and was jailed for 12 months. She said she had been "extremely intoxicated".

The court heard the street was cordoned-off during the incident, on 18 January.
