Dog walker sexually attacked by men in North Shields

Police patrols have been stepped up in North Shields after a woman was sexually assaulted while walking a dog.

The woman was grabbed from behind, forced to the ground and attacked by two men in Waterville Road, on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said they believed the attack was an "isolated" incident but have put extra officers on the streets to reassure the public.

A spokeswoman for the force said the victim was very upset by her ordeal but uninjured.

She said: "We are pursuing several leads, carrying out house-to-house inquiries and looking at CCTV footage from the area."
