CCTV released after cars are damaged in Gateshead

Police have released CCTV images after a spate of car damage in Gateshead.

Officers received 16 reports of car windows being broken around Rectory Road and Brighton Road in Bensham.

The incidents happened around 0315 BST, and it is believed the damage was caused by an air weapon.

Chief Inspector Jamie Pitt said: "This is mindless damage and is simply unacceptable. It has caused a costly and inconvenient nuisance to many victims."

We are looking to find those responsible and we urge any residents or anyone in the area at the time to come forward to police."
