Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving.

Police said his Range Rover was driven off without him as officers spoke to the Premier League star in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday.

The vehicle was found nearby soon after and a 21-year-old man was charged with drinking and driving and driving with no insurance.

Mr Ranger, 20, has been bailed pending the results of a blood test.

Two weeks ago the London-born footballer was bailed after being arrested in connection with an assault that left a man unconscious.

An 18-year-old man who was arrested at the same time as the 21-year-old man faces no further action.
