Newcastle balcony death was 'tragic accident'

The mother of a woman who fell from the balcony of a Newcastle flat has called her death a "tragic accident".

Jenna Latham, 21, of Molineux Court, Newcastle, died after falling from the balcony of a third floor flat near the city's quayside.

Northumbria Police were called to reports of a dispute at the Moorings, St Peter's Basin, on Friday evening.

They found the 21-year-old had climbed over the flat's balcony and was holding on to the outside of the railings.

She then fell to the pavement below and was confirmed dead by paramedics.

Jenna's mother, Lynne Latham, said: "This was merely a tragic accident that should never have happened.

"I know in my heart that this was not Jenna's time to go, she just lost her footing and fell. The image will live with me forever."

Police are making inquiries and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
