Man pleads guilty to County Durham stab murder

A man has admitted the murder of a classroom assistant who was found with stab wounds outside her County Durham home.

Gillian Raine, 53, was attacked outside her home in Coleridge Gardens, Dipton, near Consett, on 24 January.

Gary Thompson, 24, of Moorland View, Castleside, Consett, was due to go on trial on Newcastle Crown Court but changed his plea.

He is due to be sentenced on 4 November.

Ms Raine suffered serious neck and head injuries.
