Police say the death of an elderly man at a Tyneside care home is not being treated as suspicious.

The 77-year-old, whose name has not yet been released, was found in a bath at Connolly House in South Shields in the early hours of Saturday.

The home is owned and operated by South Tyneside Council and caters for up to 36 residents with dementia.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said a post-mortem examination had revealed the man died of natural causes.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
