Car driver dies in Redheugh Bridge bus collision

A motorist died when his car and a bus collided on a Tyneside road bridge.

Badri Mohamad Abdi, 41 of Harehills Lane in Leeds, died at the scene of the crash on the Gateshead side of the Redheugh Bridge across the River Tyne.

The bus driver and a number of passengers on the single-deck vehicle suffered minor injuries in the incident late on Saturday.

The bridge, which links Gateshead and Newcastle, was closed for more than five hours after the collision.
