Man threatened with hammer in High Heaton bookies raid

A shop worker was threatened with a hammer during a robbery at a bookmakers on Tyneside.

Police said the robber targeted Done Bookmakers, in Benton Road, High Heaton, Newcastle, at about 18:00 GMT on Thursday.

He threatened the male shop assistant with the weapon, before demanding money from the till and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The staff member was uninjured, but left shaken by his ordeal.
