Four arrested over Tyne and Wear Metro cable theft

Four people have been arrested following the theft of cable from the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Northumbria Police say the men, aged 23, 24, 30 and 49, are in custody and helping with enquiries.

Metro services were disrupted between South Gosforth and Benton after a cable was taken from a substation just before 0900 GMT.

Inspector Les Pattison said additional patrols are taking place at various locations on the Metro network.
