A man who died in hospital after being found injured at a house in County Durham had multiple stab wounds, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

The 37-year-old, who has not been named, died after being found at a house in Austen Place, Stanley, early on Saturday.

Tests showed he had suffered multiple wounds to the chest.

Durham Police said a woman aged 37, a girl aged 17 and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder.

More than 20 detectives are involved in the murder inquiry, which was sparked by a telephone call to the ambulance service at about 12:30 GMT on Saturday.

The man was found in the front room of the house with stab wounds.

He was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham where he was later pronounced dead.

A force spokesman said those arrested were being questioned at separate police stations.
