Sunderland CCTV would-be-robber jailed for four years

An armed robber whose botched attempt to hold up in a shop in Sunderland was caught on CCTV has been jailed.

John Buckley, 32, targeted the News 2000 store in Roker Avenue, Sunderland, but was tackled and held by shopkeeper Rasaratnam Rahulan until police came.

Buckley, of no fixed address, used a replica gun in the 5 August robbery.

He admitted attempted robbery and having an imitation firearm at the time of the offence, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to four years.
