Woman, 79, hurt in Sunderland mobility scooter crash

A 79-year-old woman is critically ill in hospital after a collision between a mobility scooter and a van in Sunderland.

Police and paramedics were called to Roker Baths Road, at 15:15 GMT on Friday.

Police said the 28-year-old male van driver was arrested at the scene and bailed pending further inquiries.

The road was closed for about three hours for investigations to be carried out.

Northumbria police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
