Cash stolen in Gateshead post office raid

Three masked men who stole cash from a Tyneside post office are being sought by police.

The raiders are believed to have gained access to the store at Greenside, near Gateshead, by a rear entrance when it opened earlier.

A staff member was pushed to the ground. He later required hospital treatment for injuries to his ribs.

The men, who were wearing balaclavas, took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe and left in a black car.

Police believe they were in the area for a time before the post office opened, and have appealed for information.
