Man dies following street assault in Sunderland

A man has died in hospital after being assaulted in Sunderland.

Billy Linley was found with head injuries outside the Albion Hotel on Victor Street on 11 December at 18:50 GMT.

The 33-year-old was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he died on Thursday.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with assault and has been remanded into custody until January.

Mr Linley, from Fulwell Road, in Sunderland, suffered a fractured skull during the assault.
