Man critically ill after assault in Camperdown

A man is critically ill after being assaulted in North Tyneside.

The 19-year-old was attacked after a night out with a number of friends at the Halfway House pub in Station Road in Camperdown.

An unknown man assaulted him at about 01:20 GMT and ran off towards Seghill, leaving his victim lying in the street.

The man has suffered serious head injuries and he is undergoing treatment at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
