Man arrested over Newcastle robbery inquiry

A man has been arrested by police investigating after cash was stolen from security guards by armed robbers in Newcastle.

The pair were filling a cash machine at the junction of Welbeck Road and St Anthony's Road, Walker, on 20 October.

Northumbria Police said they were approached by two men armed with a firearm and a hammer.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery after officers stopped a car in Wallsend on Saturday.

He is in police custody and inquiries are ongoing.
