Newcastle armed robbery: Arrested man bailed

A man arrested by police after cash was stolen from two security guards by armed robbers in Newcastle has been bailed.

The pair were filling a cash machine at the junction of Welbeck Road and St Anthony's Road, Walker, on 20 October.

Northumbria Police said the security guards were approached by two men armed with a firearm and a hammer.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery on Saturday after officers stopped a car in Wallsend.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said he had been bailed pending further inquiries.
