Death of man in Wallsend referred to police watchdog

The death of a man found in a house on North Tyneside has been referred to a police watchdog.

The body of the 53-year-old was discovered in the property in Hampshire Gardens in Wallsend in the early hours of Wednesday.

No details of the man or how he died have yet been released.

Northumbria Police said because of prior contact with him the incident had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
