County Durham pedestrian named after death crash

A 79-year-old pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in County Durham has been named.

Norman Hodgson, of Gibb Court, Chester-le-Street, was hit by a Toyota Aygo on a pedestrian crossing in Waldridge Road in the town on Tuesday afternoon.

He was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Of North Durham with serious head injuries.

He was later transferred to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he died on Wednesday afternoon.

The 43-year-old driver of the car was uninjured.
