Pedestrian, 78, dies after being hit by car in Hexham

A 78-year-old woman has died two weeks after she was hit by a car in Northumberland.

Joyce Mellstrom, from Hexham, was crossing the road in Loosing Hill, near Abbey Court, on 9 January at 11:30 GMT when she was hit by a car.

She was taken to hospital with leg injuries where she died on Friday.

A family statement said: "Our whole family is devastated by the loss of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother."

They added: "We'd like to thank all the people who helped our mother that day and all the staff at RVI and Freeman hospitals for everything they did."
