County Durham RAF pilot awarded medal for courage

An RAF helicopter pilot from Belmont in County Durham has been honoured by the Prince of Wales.

Chinook pilot Flt/Lt Michael Anderson led a team that rescued six injured Afghan children under heavy fire.

He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross at Buckingham Palace in a ceremony earlier.

He was given the award for his courage and calmness and for his professional display of captaincy.
